Here are some of my early renders, not my first, I don't have them anymore. :( I did these in about 1994-5 or there abouts on a Amiga 1200 that was souped up with a 68030 accelerator. At that time I was using Aladdin 4d version 2.1 to render these.

Old pocket watch, 1400 polys, about 40 min. to render.

Corinthian helmet, 800 polys, about 30 min. to render.

A wall, 2000 polys, with shadows - 10 hours to render.

I was really trying for realism here, I placed several lights in the lamp shade offset from each other to try and simulate soft shadows. That was why the render time was so high. Lots of fun. :)

Thanks, it's fun to see what everyone came up with all those years ago, with the technology they had. The program I started with was Sculpt 3D where, if you wanted something other than the default primitives, you had to position the cursor in 3D space and build your object vertex by vertex. Talk about tedious. :)

Don't feel too bad, the only reason why I still have these images is because I posted them to one of the early Amiga forums. And it just so happened that it was preserved by one of the Amiga user groups. Without them I wouldn't have the pictures today.

@Rick, those are really cool. :D At least you had anti-aliasing, it was way too expensive on the Amiga. In fact I don't remember if Aladdin 4D even had anti-aliasing at that time.
