I just started having an issue where my slave is not rendering through the Picture Viewer but it does render when using Live Viewer or the Standalone software.

I can verify this by monitoring the GPU activity/temps on the slave and the fact that when I use Picture Viewer, my renders take LONGER with net render than without. Also, the "data" info on the frame in picture viewer reports zero.

I've done many searches in the forums and found a few scenarios that were similar but nothing that addresses the issue only happening in the plugin. One lead me to double check that the tdrdelay setting in my registry is more than 10 and others pointing me to verify my network speed, which is 10gb/s, verified multiple ways. Neither of these troubleshooting steps considers that everything works great in the standalone software.

Also, I have triple checked my software/plugin versions.

Be sure that you activated network rendering in render settings and selected some clients. There is not other options which is needed to activate.

I thought it would have went without saying that I have set the network preferences and double checked them many times but here are screen shots to prove it.

Everything behaves like normal except the data transfer rate remains at "0", the slave does not contribute any computation, and the render takes approx. 5-10 seconds longer than if I were to turn net render off.

i don't take ownership of network operations in plugin. it's done by octane core. you transfer can take longer than rendering. don't know. what's your render method? how much time of frame preparation for each frames?

I am experiencing this in scenes with render times ranging from 10 seconds to 1.5 minutes. My network speed is 1000 mbps.

Like I have said, everything works fine in standalone and Live Viewer but I need it working in Picture Viewer. Whether this is the Octane core or not, the symptoms are only experienced in Cinema 4d Plugin Live Viewer.

Here are some forum threads with similar issues but the solutions do not apply to me or work for me.

I am not making this up. It has cost me an entire day troubleshooting. Can you please point me to someone who can help me fix this?

Sorry but, i can't get answer for my question. I don't think there is a need to fix in plugin side.
what's your render method? Which one of "send all data" or "resend only updated"?
How much time spend on preparation part(before rendering appear) for each frame?
Are you sure clients don't give any error in rendering?

This screen grab was taken of Afterburner on the slave while trying to render in the Picture Viewer right after rendering at full capacity the exact same scene in the Live Viewer. It seems to begin rendering at each frame but it quits right away.

Also, temps do go up a tiny bit during this process but this machine runs hot and when really rendering, the gpus go up to 75-80.

Render Method is 'Resend only updated objects'

The clients don't give any error if net render preferences are configured before starting the render. I did notice one strange thing though. I can usually turn on net render during a render that I had already began in the Picture Viewer. Now, however, if I do that, the client gives an error 'Detected that slave is hanging after initialization -> Stopping slave.' Any idea what causes this error msg.?

Preparation between frames is a couple of seconds with net render turned on and no time at all with net render turned off.

:o
Propably that's the reason of your wrong direction in title. How can it continue if a client hangs on or crashed? If your polygon count is more in picture viewer than LV and this causes a crash on client!

Hi garytyler,
probably also the frame buffer is the answer, one thing you can do before starting the render, is to go to the liveview menu>Help>Show GPU info:
Capture-007.JPG
In this way you can monitoring how much VRAM consumed in Picture Viewer, and if you exceed the slave VRAM, you have some troubles.
Which is the exact configuration of the master and the slave?
ciao beppe
