Octane render targets failing on large HDR environments

Not sure if others are encountering the same problem. I had a few old Octane files with HDR textures as big as 14k. They used to work fine.

After upgrading to 2.23 opening a rendertarget with a significantly large HDR environment causes GPU failure whereas it was a working file previously.
I have tried opening the files in 2.23 and 2.17 (which was the previous version I used to create the file).

Any ideas what may have changed between versions? I know out of core is a new feature but that should be helping the cause. Perhaps it is being caused by the latest nvidia drivers?
My setup is 4 x GTX980 with 64 GB RAM.

So, does it not work in 2.17, too? What is the error message in the log?
