so it's better a gtx 285 or a new quadro 4000?
number of cores is quite similar, the memory size is better in quadro 4000 but costs double.
please, some advices is really welcome

I would recommend getting a GTX460 with 2GB ram and using octane with bootcamp under windows for now until apple implements driver support for fermi architectures.
This will give you the best experience for a lower price, and you will be able to run octane x64 if you can install a 64 bit windows OS.

Win 7 x64 & ubuntu | 2x GTX480 | Quad 2.66GHz | 8GB
They only have not really good cards. The GTX is an older one, so you will not be happy at the moment if you try to invest
in the future. That's why the GTX460 is recommended.
I for myself have bought the GTX 285 Mac edition and octane runs fast enough for most of my needs.
But the price is way to high for what it does in relationship to the other cards.

MacPro Quad * 8Gig RAM * GTX 285 Mac Edition ( delete two GT120 to make it run with octane! ) * Snow Leopard 10.6
