In University we had a 3 week "Mudbox" project where we had to create an existing character then sculpt the detail in Mudbox/Zbrush.

I chose to recreate Frank Frazetta's Death Dealer painting. It was a tough challenge trying to get it as loyal as I could to the original painting but I'm pleased with my result.

It would have been great if this project was longer, I could spend another 3 weeks on this. There's some things I'm not entirely happy with but I've decided to leave it there now and get the renders done ready for hand-in.

I wanted to get a look that was not entirely CG like. I could spend so many hours playing with this but I'm mostly happy with the look I achieved in the time I had.

It took 30 minutes to render 1000 samples @ 4k*3k resolution. If I have time I'll render a higher quality version. I also have to render various turn-arounds of this and I have until Wednesday so I had to leave some bits which I wasn't entirely happy with. But for three weeks from scratch to this render, I'm pretty pleased with my result.

I hope you enjoy it :)

I tried to upload it to the forum but it failed :( Here's a link

Nicely done. the character is superb and frightening.
The render is maybe a bit too dark for my taste and it needs a little bit more contrast (imho).

Thanks. I'll try adjusting it in Photoshop, although it's not really my forte ^_^
