I found a thread that addresses this in 3ds Max:

I am trying to do the same thing with Octane for Maya. Anyone know a solution?

Basically I'm looking to use a light as a projector.

Just split the video file into a file sequence and load it into a file texture node in octane for maya... I'm pretty sure there's a checkbox to accept file sequences.

Thanks for the reply!

I tried exactly that and it didn't seem to work. It works fine with Maya textures but with Octane, there are a few issues. Octane Lights don't have emission texture or color inputs and if I use an emission node on geometry, it doesn't project the image. It just uses it for emission. I am still adjusting to Maya some, after moving to it from C4D but I'm able to do this with Maya lights no problem.

I just realized I think the linked thread is discussing adding the image as a texture to an object. I'd like to project the image. It wouldn't be a physically accurate behavior of an emission, but rather of a film projector. but I'm able to do it with a regular Maya light and would love to do it with an Octane light as well if there is a way.
