Hi Folks,

would like to hear some comments about a icecream-render i did with octane.
I know that a lot of very good artist are around here, so critics are very welcome!!

GF Titan, original size was 4000x4000, Pathtracing - 3500 samples in 2,5 hours.

Happy rendering!

definitely looks on par with what you'd see on a box. if you're going for pure realism, there would be a few things to fix, but it looks like you're going for the idealized, almost illustrative look that you would see on packaging. Taken that into account, i'd just say that the chocolate on the handle looks glossier than the chocolate on the ice cream. that may be intentional though, since the chocoloate on the handle won't be as cold, therefore it will be glossier.

thx guys for nice comments, indeed it was supposed to be a package-commercial image and due to that a idealized illustrative look.

Is the ice cream just a texture or did you do some displacement?

Nice. I'd say thats the most realistic part of it. Is there a little SSS on the chocolate? Looks to me they may be a little too much of it. Not 100% sure though. Looks good enough to be on an ice cream box to me though!

@dotcommer: yes the choclate material is a specular-material with sss on it. without sss the chocolate looks not realistic,
and to be honest: the choclate is the only reason i posted this work here. the render itself is not hard to do -
just put an image around for reflections and lighting, turn it till reflections look good or build a custom one with hdrstudio -
choose pt or pmc and press render. rest ist waiting (and/or sleeping)

the sculpting of the chocolate was a bit more tricky but also no big deal - but the chocolate with its sss was hard to archive for me.
with this result i was pretty happy so i decided to post it here and watch what you guys say about it.

Nice Render. My only crit would be the connection/ blending between the choc and ice mat. It looks to seperated somehow.
The ice should be a bit darker where it connects to the choco, cause the choc shines thru a little bit?

But mats itself look very awesome!

Nice to see pushing octane further and further!!! :)
