Hi Guys,
Each time I tried to export OBJ from 3ds max. The obj becomes single wire, which means you can only apply for one material. Please find screen shot and MTL script as below.
The MTL of OBJ as below.
newmtl wire_198225087
Ns 32
d 1
Tr 0
Tf 1 1 1
illum 2
Ka 0.776471 0.882353 0.341176
Kd 0.776471 0.882353 0.341176
Ks 0.350000 0.350000 0.350000

it will become a single mesh but You should have as many pins as You have different materials for the model before You export - in this case You can hook different mats for it, no matter if it's a single object =)

Thanks so much for the quick response.glimpse wrote:it will become a single mesh but You should have as many pins as You have different materials for the model before You export - in this case You can hook different mats for it, no matter if it's a single object =)
It does not seem to be the case here. Would you please have a look at the picture below where I got only one pin and it is always like this. This problem bothers me all the time.
Thanks
Use object layer map - connect it to your obj.

Now every single pin in the map node works as an obj pin - simply connect material and texture nodes to them.
PS. use 'o' key to sample certain geometry and its material in the viewport.

Just call me an idiot. Can you take a look at the picture and show me how to connect the material to layer map? thankssmicha wrote:Now every single pin in the map node works as an obj pin - simply connect material and texture nodes to them.

Sorry,
This works only for general visibility with the 'Object layer' node.
So, export obj separately and then connect them using 'geometry group'.

Thanks mate. Maybe ok to export separately if not too many meshes. But sometimes really difficult.
Thanks fro your help.
There is another solution - I forgot, sorry. Namely apply different textures in 3Ds max (with different names). Export your scene as a single obj and connect the material map node to it. You should see as many pins there as material names.
