First question is the Standalone does animation now, right? My thinking is that it seems the stand alone performs a lot better than the lightwave plug in and would allow me to use the live DB. Is it possible to export an alembic or ics from lightwave Octane Utility and have the standalone render animation for you? I tried it and it tells me I don't have an animation... though I know I do.

It is true that you don't have LiveDB in the LightWave plugin (yet), but all the other Octane features are available in the LW plugin and the rendering speed should be the same. Why do you think that that Stadalone performs a lot better?

Anyway you can export the full animated scene to Standalone with the Alembic options available in the render target root node options panel:

Perfect, thanks. Do you think that's a poor workflow idea? It's just I think I noticed the standalone performed a whole lot better with it's update speed when I was doing some tests.

In theory all the things that you can do in Standalone should be done by the LW plugin at the same speed, and with all the benefits of working inside a full 3D app, but if you feel that Standalone is faster or better for example in the materials or render target setups, please let me know to try to have this features or performance inside LW ;)

I'll do this test with a very demanding scene and let you know. Believe me though, I'd prefer to stay in Lightwave. Let's see how this test goes...

You're right. Not much of an advantage of leaving Lightwave except for the live DB. Which you hinted might be coming soon? When do you think?

I am working on it, I hope to have at least a first release for simple materials this month ;)
