For a while now, I have been infuriated by Octane crashing on me when I am looking at a render. Hours of render time have been wasted due to this. Well I have finally worked out the exact combination of actions which causes the crash. This "works" 100% of the time for me.

I'll add this first step because this is normally what I do but it might not be required.
1. Let the render run for some time.
2. ctrl + mouse wheel to zoom in
3. ctrl + LMB to scroll around

bingo, Octane goes into a not responding loop.

Anyone else got this or more importantly anyone got a solution (other than not doing these actions).

Hi there,

I just tried to replicate your actions in Octane 2.3 v5 and it seems to be working fine.
Could you please indicate just how long you mean by 'some time' in regards to the time it takes for it to render out?
Also have you tried these combination of actions with a test scene? i.e. chess scene from the test suite. This should give a good indication of where the problem is coming from.

Hi, I'd want to say that crashing Octane when using the scroll wheel is frequent for me too.

This said, I think that this trouble is due to Windows 7 x64 :

I switched from Windows XP 32 bits some months ago, to get benefit of more RAM, and the scroll mouse wheel problem appeared in Octane as well as in Blender.

Using the scroll wheel (specially when scrolling fast) in Edit mode in Blender induces the same freeze as in Octane : white half transparent screen over the GUI and frozen software.

Doesn't sound right at all. Have you tried to use a different mouse/driver?

Cheers,

I use a Microsoft Basic Optical mouse (I use this kind of mouse for years on my 4 computers without any trouble on Win XP Pro 32bits, and I have always at least one new in spare), so it is plug and play and supposed to be fully compatible with Windows, and no driver is required.

It happens only on Win 7 Pro x64. I can check easily, because my hard disks are on drawers and I have kept my previous 32 bits system. On Win XP Pro 32 bits, I don't get the wheel problem in Blender and Octane 2.2.

I get it on the Win 7 x64 system with Octane 2.3 and sometimes in Octane 2.2, and Blender. It happens less frequently in Blender 32 bits version.
