This is the recommended thread for downloading, and posting any questions, suggestions or support queries for OctaneRender for Carrara 2.1 - BETA RELEASE.

This is a patch for 2.17 that fixes a nasty bug in the Error Log subsystem. This bug caused Carrara to crash whenever the Octane Engine reported an error. This can happen when the viewport is initially paused. I highly recommend you upgrade to this version (if you are not using the 2.2x test version).

Carrara Version
This version requires Carrara 8/8.5. This version runs on 64 or 32 bit Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. The .NET 4.5 Framework is required.

If you have a support issue, please provide the following information:
- Operating System (ie. Win 7, 8, 8.1)
- 32 or 64 bit
- Amount of RAM
- Graphics Card(s) - model (ie. GTX 580, 3GB)
- Nvidia driver version
- Carrara version
- OctaneRender for Carrara version (ie. 2.17.0066)
- List what other plugins you have installed for Carrara
- The most important part of resolving a problem is me being able to re-produce that problem. So please provide as much detail as possible in order for me to do this, and if the problem is specific to the scene, send me the scene.

Change Log
- For the Change Log see here.

Known Issues
- Carrara can crash when consolidating materials. (Edit->Remove Unused Masters->Consolidate Duplicate Shaders) The exact cause of this issue is still unknown as there is no reliable repeat case and I have not, myself, been able to reproduce this issue. If you can find a repeat case then I will reward you with great praise. It is highly recommended that you save you scene and close the ORVP before trying to consolidate.

Thanks for the update, had a bit of a install issue. Previous versions would overwrite or uninstall before new version installs but now I get a error and nothing installs. I will manually uninstall or wait a few just in case there was a change in your installer.

That's because you are installing 2.17 on top of 2.21. 2.17 is the Stable release of 2.1. You don't want 2.17 if you are moving forward with 2.21.

I'm using the stable version of Carrara 8.5. I have the 2.17 version of the OR standalone and Carrara plugin installed. When I open the OR plugin in Carrara it causes Carrara to crash every time. I'm not sure why this keeps happening but it occurs with every Carrara scene. This is on Win Pro 8.1. I can't give any more information except that Carrara functions normally and renders fine as long as I don't open the OR plugin. Any help appreciated.

I'm runing this version on 8.5 stable and the beta.
Do you maybe have LuxCore installed? I had the same trouble until I deleted LuxCore.

The problem is how do I try any of these suggestions when the plugin crashes Carrara as soon as I open it? Even with a new empty scene.

Ok, I uninstalled v2.17 and installed v2.21 now it works properly and doesn't crash Carrara. When I first installed and opened 2.21 I made sure I switched on all the settings you suggested in the other thread.

There must be some incompatibility between 2.17 and my Win 8.1 system. I suspect it might have been that I didn't switch on Auto Start Render immediately after I first opened the plugin after installation. Is it possible to be able to open the plugin without opening Carrara so that we can adjust settings in case of crashes like this?

Having not used Carrara for awhile I forgot how awkward it is trying to open DAZ content. The OR plugin is let down by Carrara itself!

You can open the Octane Settings dialog without opening the Viewport from the Scene->Effects tab.

Scene -> Effects -> Octane Render Target -> Edit

I found the cause of the crash and I will post an update shortly.
