Hi Guys,

I spent sometime last night as my second trial for octane. Only started using it two weeks ago.

PMC 3 hours.

All comments are appreciated. I know i need to improve definitely everything. But any critiques or tips on specific area could even be more helpful. Such as lighting

The only thing I am bit happy about this one is the outside view of sliding doors.
I still don't know how to create the sun ray effect through windows. Any idea?

The picture looks very plain to me. Any suggestion other than P.S?

Thanks all masters here. Just learning.

Hi,
...First of all I see the keys, and the Swiss boxcutter in the foreground that are flying. :o
The bulb of the floor is flat, has no volume. Or should be a bit more glossy or an emitter.
Chandelier from the ceiling has a material difficult to define, it is not clear.
Glass shelf of white table seems pmma
Increases a little exposure
Try changing camera response curves
Hdri, I think it has low gamma.
I hope help you. ;)

Correct me, if I'm wrong.

Good pickup. Scottie - if you use a .exr or .hdr, the general rule is to use a gamma of 1 in the Image node containing the hdr map.

Another measure.. :D
which seems to miss the ceiling, unless there is a large window, but by then the light should be less common with more defined shadows.
I think that if you used direct lighting instead of PMC'd get almost the same result in 30 minutes. Such as lighting.
I hope I was clear. ;)

First of, COMPOSITION. Composition is everything, you can have great lighting and materials but your picture will look boring and uninteresting.
currently you have the swiss knife and keys in the foreground, with high contrast in both color and light. so your eye want to look there. But it's out of focus so it's not your intention to look there i guess.

Then you have the sofa in the center of the image. but it's covered by the table and at an angle that makes it quite uninteresting.

The picures on the wall looks interesting and they are in the rule of thirds area, but they are covered by the lamp.

I would suggest looking at maybe a youtube vid on composition. And then use what you've learned.

I like this one

Totally agree with Karl (aka Kayze). Composition is very weak here..

Though I would stay away from targeted tutorials & go to something even more basic. This should give a bit of a head spin..

with that You can open up Your favorite arch related website or (pinterest) and start looking around for some ideas =) don't copy (You're not a robot, but try to ask questions, like: WHY?)

as You go, You start to pick the styles photographers (let's say in architecture) use. You will start to see lighting patterns..angles, framing ideas, dof influence, etc..

Light matters..- try to push Yourself out of comfort zone & start having fun - it might take time..it might be emotionally hard, but You'll start to see a change eventually.

..otherwise?..We'll my grandma is quite old now & I'm happy to know she doesn't have driving licence anymore..-just because she drove 50+ years, she is NOT as good as Shumacher - quite opposite honestly (I was afraid to drive with her 20Year ago..she was like "monkey with grenade")..- what I want to say here..if You just repeat what You know without questioning why..You end up being the same - no matter how long You're going to practice..

Good luck!
