How to start a Blog?

Hi,

I am planning to start a blog.
Maybe anyone has experience and some tips and advice where to look and start, how-to and so on...?

I already have a domain, but it can slao be a link from there to the blog that is hosted somewhere else, but I would rather have it integrated in the domain.

Install WordPress (wordpress.org) on your server (hosting service required), customize your theme (look for codecanyon wp-themes) and you are ready to go.

Configure your dns zone - need help? PM me

Watch some WP tutorials on youtube and start blogging.

That's the best route =) custom install will give You all the freedom - & "add-free" space.

There's a lot of small things to tweak, to have site that performs.. good (flexible), well build theme matters too for a lot of things..

I don't know what is Your long term goal & what You want to do,
but I have some server space & could help You custom install..

don't be afraid to get hands dirty - it's not so hard when You have someOne to help =)

Thank you friends who seem to find each other on any topic...

I remember looking into joomla and also a little in wordpress (I am not sure though) long time ago...joomla scared me away and I had forgotten wordpress.
I will definitely look into wordpress for blog,
And I will find you certainly when needing help.

I use Google's blogger. Ends up looking like http://poserphysics.blogspot.com.au/. Unsure if you can use your own domain name.

Some time ago - about 2 years google apps (google.com/a) offered up to 1000, then 500, then 200, then 100, then 50, then 20, then 10, now 0 users for free. But it's engine is really great. If you want to have your own domain and blogger (and many more apps - custom gmail, calendar, docs, ...) simply get apps for business - 50$/year/user.

Summarizing: blogger is great, but google apps is required to customize your domain. WP is free and your hosting is required but you have more freedom in customizing your website.

that sums up everything perfectly =) if You don't have high traffic blog/site for that 50$ You can have custom (share) hosting & WordPress install - Yes it's more headache, plus You need to put some work with theme, plugs (if You use them), but it's way more flexible solution, as You can change whatever You want =)
