Hi, I cannot seem to get the background image of hdri sets to render properly with the plugin.
Normally in Modo I load an sIBL environment and all is setup, Env lighting, background, reflection etc. The background image is typically a larger format sharp spherically arranged image of the hdr image. Often 8k.

I understand that for the plugin you need to use the alpha channel in the Kernel settings and load the image there.. which sorta works.
(there is another issue weird screen corruption of image probably due to size/resolution and fit to render, but for now I'm mostly wanting it to just show up in the final render)

Octane standalone is fine, well it works, via loading it through the sky texture facility and renders correctly. But with the plugin it shows up in the viewport ok, but not in the final render. (at least how I've been doing it via alpha channel.)

Using plugin 2.21.53 with standalone 2.21.1 and Modo 801 sp3. Win 7pro.
Hopefully you can see from the pic what I mean.

Otherwise the plugin is working extremely well, I'm really stoked!

Cheers!

Hi - firstly your NVidia driver version (in your sig) is looking out of date - try anything from 443 onwards.

Can you post your Shader Tree environemt pls?

Also, to pickup the Modo IBL image, you need to click the Octane Setup panel Environment button and either set it to Texture Environment, or set to Daylight and tick the "Use Texture Environment" checkbox.

Also, make sure Alpha Channel is DISABLED in the Kernel settings.

Hi Paul, oops the sig is really out of date.. Ill fix it later. I do use 344.75 and have a GTX660ti w 2 GB.
I've got a pic of the setup. Refer below.
octane plugin backplate issue 2.jpg
Essentially I did try what you mentioned.
I finally worked out that when you select use texture environment it uses the "Env lighting" image, the small blurred hdr. (as in Modo it should.. just for lighting) But if you change this image for say the reflection image ie 3k hdr, or the 8k jpg, it is displayed and renders properly in the octane modo plugin as a "backplate". I guess that the only problem here may be that too much info is being given to the IBL setup. ie the image is sharp and perhaps too large..? and the lighting may not be as it should, ie blurred hdr.

Hope this makes sense.
Cheers!

Hi Gary

There is some info on this at http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Modo/?page_id=466. To quote....
The IBL image is taken from the first Modo Environment Image map in the Environments section of the Shader Tree with an Effect of Environment Color.
So in your example, the plugin is picking up the "Lighting" map. You can use the other maps by moving them above the Lighting map in the Shader Tree.

As to /which/ map you should be using....I don't think any of them are right of to use with Octane. Ideally Octane would have a sharp version of the Light map. The Background map is the right sharpness - but is not HDR.

People with more experience than I may have a different opinion.

Ha! I did read that section of the manual.. but for the life of me I didn't make that connection re the FIRST env map....
The reflection image in these sets is a 3k hdr, so I'll have a go with that.
(only problem it's a 13+meg image file and I don't know if it does actually have all the data needed for a lighting hdri).

I'll have to look into what Modo does with IBL / hdri and see if just re-arranging the env order will be an issue for Modo.
ie put the reflection map first in the shader tree.

Anyway thanks Paul, I've a much better picture of how to set it up now.
