Hi,

Just install the octane v2 plugin for rhino 5.

Everything works but the materials preview doesn't appear as it should, we're two octane/rhino users at the office and the preview is not the same for me.

please find attached a preview of the trouble, it's a simple octane texture with an image in diffuse channel.

Any help will be more than welcome as it makes it really hard to work on complex texture

These are my computer settings:

Hi - this is a known issue, and been reported and discussed in either the TEST or STABLE thread. Material previews are most of the time rendering the Rhino version of an Octane material rather than the actual Octane material. This is an issue with the Rhino API, and I have discussed this with McNeel and it will be address in either a future SR of Rhino 5 or if not, definitely fixed in Rhino 6.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I still don't understand why it's working fine on the computer next to me, which is using Rhino 5 as well and octane release 2.13.0.20 ? I've tried reloading octane with this version but it still doesn't work.

Are there any other preferences or setting I could look at changing/reloading to make it work, it if doesn't work then it makes Octane almost unusable, which is not good.

Thanks

Lo

Sorry,

Problem solved just needed to activate the current renderer to octane in the render tab.

Yes! Thank you - I was unaware that was the cause (I have been unable to determine why previews were rendering intermittently). I will get back to McNeel with this info - hopefully if will speed up a fix.

Hey :)

It appears so - I just installed SR11 for Rhino, and materials still looked bad - checked the forum - found this thread - changed current renderer to octane and materials look very ok now.

Well, simply during installation of octane render, current render setting must have changed to default setting (without noticing the user) and we assumed that something was wrong.

Looks ok now :)

The next release of the plugin will pop up a warning to say that you don't have the OctaneRender renderer selected. I have also pushed this issue to the McNeel devs to resolve (since it is a Rhino bug IMO).
