I bet they are working on something special. Something jaw dropping. Something better than new stuff we faced when upgrading from 1.5 to 2.0. Something we all will be happy ;)

Ptex support would be sweet. No more wasted texture space taking up VRAM. We'll probably get UDIM support though which is cool. I would imagine this is mainly the big particle/volumetric update.

From what I read it supports two Cuda based render engines, Blender and Octane. Seems like good news for Octane, no?

OTOY is working on.."oneClick solution" & it's stuck somewhere in the pipe..
guess, it's not so easy to make & some solution out to the market?

However Renegat solutions seemed to be a reasonable one.. before OTOY changed their EULA around release of 2.0
- technically by it You are not allowed to use Renegatt's solution ('cos Octane can not be run on virtualised GPUs).

It's a bit sad, but guess it's life (I was going to test Renegatt software & thought of making small tutorial, how-to in combination with OctaneRender & cheap spot instances - would be awesome..but - why to even bother? I mean, if it's technically against EULA so making this easy, explaining or benching how things work will not benefit in the end, just make things more complicated as OTOY clearly doesn't like this to compete with their upcoming service..).

Whole problem is that OTOYs service is stuck nowhere & we have little to none news & all other things are prohibited to be used by licensing - now if You ask me..OTOY just shot to their feet. 'cos they are stopping adoption of Octane by some bigger studios who have resources (compute power) or funds (to buy that temporarily from AWS) & use Octane for bigger projects..

There are users who own tens of Titans/780 - I know few of them here..-I believe managing their workstations is a headache..with that 12GPU limit for instance..

That might sound like a sad song (& I'm not in position to make any critiques), but it seems OTOY is missing a point here..- If You can't deliver the service at least allow Your community to go providing possibilities for DIY render-farms (utilising like Renegatt software given possibilities).

I'm not agains OTOYs politics, I just don't understand it..& sometimes it's hard to explain for anyOne from outside who ask with exitment : Can we make small render farm so we would be able to have fast turnarounds? - when You answer that this is on the limb, mentioning 12GPU limit..- guess all that is making things to be more complicated then they have to be..

If someOne got attracted with Octane as a possible solution why to put a wall to bounce these users?..
(but as I said, I might not understand something there, maybe there are deeper causes to such politics)

Yes it workED - a while ago (even with more than 12 GPUs, that is current limmit of Octane network rendering even if You have money to buy extra gear & licences =)

The whole point is that we are NOT ALLOWED to use OctaneRender with virtual GPUs (that Renegatt software provides =) - that's the main problem =) (at least these were silent changes with versio 2.0 - not making a buzz, just informing those who haven't read). Voiding EULA could "brick Your licence" (whatever that means) -qoute might not be 100% exact- as I understand Your simply not allowed to that & Your licence might be suspended =) however noOne talks or explain this.

To @Gabriel..I wouldn't bet my money on that..but let's see how hat goes =)
