Hey Guys!
Im thinking about upgrading my Mac Pro's (2010) graphics card and I'm wondering if some of you guys already got some information about which CUDA card works best with Mac OSX/Octane...
There are some cards my Mac reseller recommended me, but I'm sure there are some more and maybe "better" ones!
For example, I read an article about the GTX 780/Mac Pro/Octane....working like a charm..:)
So what would you guys recommend me, in order to get Octane on my MacPro running?!
Thanks in advance!
Cheers

hi,
as you can see in my signature, i have a 2009 mac pro with a GT 120 for display only and 2x 780 only for octane.
Since Lion we can use almost any PC card, from Maverick you can also don't need anymore a mac nvidia card for booting, like my GT 120. Anyway, take in count that having a dedicated GPU for the monitor is always the best way to go for working smoothly with octane ;)
Last but not least, in general, an external PSU is needed for feeding the GPUs.
For now you can go with 2x 780, 780ti, Titan Black or even one Titan Black and one Titan Z (extreme setup)
The new Maxwell 2 GPUs like 970 and 980 should be an interesting option, specially in the 6+6 pin configuration, i have read of new mac drivers from nvidia for supporting the new cards but i have not one for testing right now.

Thanks a lot, bepeg4d!
So you think for example the "Asus Matrix-gtx780ti-3gd5" could do the job under Yosemite?! And is an external PSU needed if I upgrade with one card? Or will it be necessary only, once I upgrade with a second gtx780ti?! What external PSU would you recommend?
And by the way, why is the GTX 970 cheaper?? Or am I googling wrong..;)?!
Thanks a lot in advance!
Cheers

hi,
yes the Asus Matrix-gtx780ti should be ok, but it's better to prefere the Titan form factor without extra fan on the side
About the power, in short, if the card need only 6+6pin connector, you can feed them directly from the Mac Pro, if the connectors are 6+8pin or even 8+8pin, you need an external PSU or play with connectors for catching extra power from the secon DVD bay for example.
here is an old discussion about this:

The 970 is cheaper because is less powerfull compared to a 780ti ;)
