Was owndering if anyone was using Quixel Suite or dDO for textures to render in Octane. I've having a real problem getting it to work properly. I get a great look in dDO, but then am having to messiw the spec and roughness (glossy dDO calls it) to get it to look anywhere like as good.

This is how it looks in DDO

And this is the closest I can get it in Lightwave Octane. And only then after a lot of messing with the maps.

If anyone is using it and has any experience they can share, that'd be great.

Use the spec/gloss texture as a roughness node instead of specular on Octane with gamma 1, that's what I personally do.
Remember that these tools ( I use Substance Painter/Designer on my side) are also made for game engines like Unreal Engine 4 and Unity 5 (for example, U5's BRDF does not contain IOR slider) and you have to take that in count.

There are probably better way but it really depends of your exporting, as sometimes it can export the roughness as alpha channel etc. :)

I've actually got it sussed I think. I have found an export profile that exports the gloss map as a roughness map that's the right way round for Octane. :)

Tell me what you mean about taking the IOR into consideration though?

50% off today (Black Friday) only!!

I have been using it (some) since beta. dDo and nDo rock. Half off is crazy shit - quite the deal bros - and worth every penny of the normal asking price for suite. Run, don't walk, if you have been on the fence.

I just checked for you - kind of buried. Doesn't look like it. Just Windows. That sucks.

Not sure how you Linux-only guys do it... Gotta be a hard life at times....

Thanks for checking, I looked but couldn't find the information. Otherwise it's not too bad for Linux, there are some other options. :) I have been using 3D-Coat and it's a lot of fun. They are upgrading the texture system to support PBR but it's not out yet, soon I hope.

Quixel site still showing 50% off!... I have to think folks can still get suite for a very sweet price. (It is now Saturday 1:15pm Eastern US)

Gordon, what export preset are you using? I found i had to invert the glossy map and plug it in to the roughness map and that seems to work well. I´m using Generic PBR.

I can't remember off hand, but there is an export setting that exports a roughness map, rather than glossy. And it doesn't need inverted.
