I´ve been a happy 3x GTX 580/3GB user, so far.

Some time ago i planned to build myself a 3-4 x GTX Titan rig. but:

- Then GTX 780 came out, almost as fast as the Titan
- The GTX 780 Ti, was even faster than the Titan
- The GTX 780/6GB made the decision even harder.

You guys, that are familiar with those cards, please give me some advice!

- Is it worth to spend around 100$ more for the Ti?
Let´s assume 6GB are necessary (over the last 3 years i toppped 3GB only once...):
- Is there a reason to choose GTX Titan over the GTX 780/6GB?

Thank you in acvance for any input!

780 6GB is a winner in terms of price to performance. Look at my rig (footer).

You may also consider TITAN Z, which prices dropped by a half.

if 6GB is a must, then You have 3 options: 780 6gb (that might be hard to find, 'cos they are discontinued), TitanBlack (780Ti with 6GB & unlocked DP), or TitanZ (dual gk110, & cropped - 8TFLOPS of SP).

In Octane there's no reason to go Titans(Blacks) instead of 780(TI)s - the only difference is Titans have DP higher compare to 780 - & that doesn't matter at all in Octane as it uses SP. 780 6gigers might be hard to find, pluss keep in mind they all have non reference coolers. 780Ti (6GB) doesn't exists..

Value wise, there's almost the same if You take 780 or 780Ti - most important aspect that will influence the decision is probably going to be amount of vRam & availability of course. Titan(including Black) have way lower value, because of their price range - You simply can't use what You pay extra for (DP)..

the only reason to consider Titan(blacks) is their reference cooler with 6GB (as mention 6GB 780 has only non-reference cooler designs).

Performance wise the extra 100 bucks for the TI is makking it get out of the sweet spot the 780 has, which btw is also easier to keep cool.

We have 4 780 Tis and I would say they are very good for price vs performance.
