I think I've still got a Vue mindset about a couple of things that aren't helping me in Octane :-). I'd like to make some lampshades translucent. In Vue I'd probably use an SSS material, which I obviously don't have here. Instead I tried a diffuse material with transmission which didn't work out at all.

Is the 'correct' way of doing this in Octane to use a specular material with low values in the transmission channel, and maybe some roughness to do some light scattering?

I'm going to do some test renders, but I'd appreciate opinions from those more experienced with Octane.
