Hi all,

recently I bought a second hand EVGA GeForce TITAN Black SuperClock Edition 6144MB GDDR5 from a reputable reseller here in UK. Good price too- 500.00GBP.

I downloaded the 1.55 Standalone Octane, unchecked my second graphics card in the Preferences, switched to Path Tracing, turned off Alfa Shadows and am getting 6.24Ms/sec score.

Is that normal?
I found higher scores for Titan Blacks from other users but then again they have overclocked their cards and I haven't.

I am not a score addict :), I just need to know if the card is operating well.
My PC case is fully open on the side so that the card can breath air from outside easily.

Thanks for any help, guys.

=) hi,

it's a bit difficult to say, as those s/sec are dependant on scene =) but to give You a fair perspective I could say this (see You had 2x460 - exactly what I had prior =) so:

2x460 are almost the same as 670 (that's what I went for - same speed, but more vRam), then I added TitanBlackto my 670 & it's slightly more than two times faster compared to 670..

So if You have 460 & Titan Black in the same box..Titan Black should be 4-5 times faster then single 460 (varies on clock speeds that are influenced by temperatures =)

& if You want to compare samples, download benchmark scene (don't change a thing, don't move camera..) - hope that helps =)

Sorry mate, my fault...
I described many things up there just forgot to say I was testing the Titan Black under the default Benchmark scene (the tunnel with Greeble).

And yes- I also have as a second card a GTX 670 4GB and the Titan is slightly more than 2x the performance of the 670. So I guess that is good news then :)
And get this- I also have a GTX 460 2GB here which I was using up until recently :)
Small world, eh?

Thanks a lot for the info, mate and have a good weekend.
Jules.

Don't say You have WindForce 460, Jules ??? =)
(though mine 460 was low-endish, only 1.2 gig model,
but so start with those I was more than happy! =)

No, mine is Palit :)
Man, how have GPUs progressed, eh? 1.2GB and 2GB now look kind of obsolete...
Still, Fermi was/is a beast and not your ECO friendly GPU chip :)

Cheers mate.

yeah, I've actually just got interest into GPU after I met Octane (around the time when fermi dominated)..& before everything was about CPUs.. when changed my ageing QX6700 (that was cost me ~1kEu) I've jumped into lower-end systems, based on 3570k (200-300Eu)..but when You pair them with modern GPU's..man it's good to work..- now my rig is few year old, but I just swat cards to keep good performance flowing..Curious what nVidia is going to bring on the hi-end with Maxwell architecture =)..

He-he, whatever high- end Maxwell brings to the table it will most likely make me regret buying the Titan Black. Just kidding- I should just start utilizing what I have and stop looking at other cards.

Rappet- I did not buy the 2.xx update. I even downloaded the latest 2.xx standalone available and when I entered my serial number it told me it was no good for 2.xx.
Or is there a free version of the 2.xx which I can test?

Cheers, guys.

Hi julianb,
I'll get back to you if I do not forget to test my Titan Black with 1.55 for you to compare.

Thanks, rappet.
Don't sweat it if you don't have the time though, mate.

Have a good weekend.
