If I do all Octane over ride materials, then will I not have to refresh materials between frames on animations? I am at about 8 seconds per frame but the refreshing of materials is taking almost 20 seconds per frame.
One more question actually, for network rendering, does the other computer have to have the same plugin version? Or can they just have the slave installed? Haven't jumped into it yet, because we aren't upgrading his plugin yet because he is in the middle of a big project. But I would still like to utilize his gpus for my stuff, with the latest octane version.
Sorry this was all setup for me before I got to this studio, so I don't know all the correct versions, I just know I have the newest one, 2.0 and he has like 1.5 or whatever the older version was.
Thanks

I have yet another question, I will just add to this instead of creating another thread. But I have a system with 4 titans and I only have 3 checked for rendering and one for navigation. Does it sound right is I say I am getting 15 or so Samples/Second with direct lighting and like 4 with path tracing? I asked a coworker and he said with cinema he was getting like 80 samples/second?
It is still rendering fast. But the samples/second just doesn't sound right.

My apologies for the delayed response - I somehow missed your post.
I suspect the "Reload Materials Each Frame" should also be made available if you have "Load All Frames Into Octane" UNTICKED, because at the moment it does NOT reload the materials - but you might want to....but I would need to look into this in more detail.
If you don't need the materials to be reloaded, either UNTICK "Reload Materials Each Frame", or UNTICK "Load All Frames Into Octane".
The animation system has had a few tweaks, and there are some more to come, so some of the above might change in the future.
Does that answer your question?
Paul
It depends if you tick "Load All Frames Into Octane". If that is NOT ticked, the materials will NOT be reloaded (since only the mesh vertices will be updated). If ticked, then ticking "Reload Materials Each Frame" will do exactly that. And it will do the material reload for both Octane Override materials, and normal Modo Materials. If I do all Octane over ride materials, then will I not have to refresh materials between frames on animations? Version 2.10.x.x of the plugin will need Slave 2.10. Similarly, 2.6.x.x will need Slave 2.06.does the other computer have to have the same plugin version? Or can they just have the slave installed? All the plugins for Octane (and Octane Standalone) will render at the same speed. If there is a speed difference, that is because the resolution, camera, number of emitters, number of polygons, etc is different. In general, I find the number of polygons in the scene seems to most influence the render speed. But I have a system with 4 titans and I only have 3 checked for rendering and one for navigation. Thanks, that answered all of my questions.
I still can't find the slave download for some reason... But I think I am reading this right, I have 2.0 and he has 1.5, could I just put the 2.0 slave on his computer and he keep using 1.5 and I can still use network rendering for 2.0? Or does he have to have the 2.0 version AND the slave for 2.0? I hope that makes sense. Basically I want to use his for network rendering without him upgrading to 2.0.
Also, I can't find where to download the slave files? I read it is in the sub forum for like commercial upgrades ,or whateve you posted above for the plugin announcements, but I still cant find it.
We are looking into solutions for both me and another guy getting 12 gpus a piece. So I need to get a really good handle on the network rendering. Also, have you heard anything about the licensing to use more than 12 gpus without going to the cloud?
Thanks again
We will both be upgrading to 2.1 but are both in the middle of bigger projects, but not sure when they will be done. So we would still really like to utilize the network rendering.

Hi
To run a 2.0 Slave, your colleague will need a 2.0 OctaneLive license (and it sounds like he's on 1.5)? Once he has a 2.0 license, download and install the same Standlone version as your Modo plugin version (so if you are on 2.6.0.something, install Standalone, which includes the slave from http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=41635). If you are on the 2.10.0.something version of the plugin, you will need to install the 2.10 Standalone and slave from http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=42564. Then setup the slave as per http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Standalo ... ge_id=1269.

We got the 2.06 standalone installed on his computer and I have the 2.06 plugin installed on my computer. We tried to run the command in the docs using my ip address and the master port, when we did that, we got the error not recognized.

Are you on the same LAN?
Can you please give me the exact command you ran and a screen-shot of the exact error.
Normally you would both be on the same LAN, and you would run the _install_daemon.bat file on his PC, hit enter a few time to select the default settings and then run the _run_installed_daemon.bat file to start the slave daemon. (These files are in the standalone installation folder, usually c:\program files\OTOY\OctaneRender 2.06\ ).
When the slave daemon is running on his machine, it should show up automatically in your plugins network rendering settings.
Thanks!
