I watched the videos and the most mamma mia thing is the price: 30.000 EUR. Oh, well... 8-)

what is it that makes this thing sooooo expensive? geez, I expect prices like that from Autodesk and they aren't even that stupid
win 7-64bit./Ubuntu 64bit 4gb ram. intel core quad q6600, geforce gt430 driver 260.89

Direct Nurbs ray-tracing, I guess that's it..

I don't really think Engineering industry cares about totally realistic renders of their products, rather their blueprints, so I guess they were fine before, but it is kinda revolutionary in it's sense.

Hence the price-tag, they expect different industry to buy this.

I believe that product renderings don't stress much on rendering capabilities of an engine nearly as much as, let's say, an interior rendering. Trapped bouncing and usually complex texturing

I wouldn't mind if they 'stole' the OpenGL preview mode for smoother workflow during content creation...
