Hey folks,
My new GTS250 arrived today so it now runs Octane while a Quadro FX570 does the display thanks to a modded Quadro 191.78 driver by yours truly ;)
Here's an early experiment.
This model originally was saved out from Solidworks as vrml.
Actually each bit was supposed to have a different material ex Blender but for some reason I havent worked out yet the mesh imported as one blue one and not 15 coloured parts no matter what I did.
If any one can tell me why that is I would be grateful.
Got to be a setting or something... :)

Importing the VRML into Blender gives you separate parts, but after export to OBJ they're all one piece in Octane?

From Blender, I separate by material in the OBJ export dialog ... have you checked that option (and do these separate meshes have a shared material, our each it's own)?

Which version of Octane are you using?

btw: Nice model and render, lookin' forward to the colored one!

Hi,
This issue is driving me nuts. I cant work out what I am doing wrong.
I cant get anything other than a mesh with 1 material - blue 0,0,1.
I'm using Blender 2.49b, Octane 0.8a 9000.exe. on XP.

There are 15 meshes in Blender. They all have different materials except for 2 that share.
When I open the mtl there are different materials in there.
The obj seems to reference the mtl properly.

but ..no worky! all blue...

I even made another super simple scene with no shared mat still the same..
May be I can get someone to upload a simple .blend scene with 3 or 4 different materials on cubes they know exports properly for them with a screenie of the exporter settings.

Man this is frustrating... maybe I should specialise in clay renders :?

Using the same basic setup (Blender 2.49b, Octane 0.8a '9000.exe', XP-64) I exported 4 cubes and a plane with different materials (the file is attached if you want to try it) ... all seemed to work fine.

The OBJ export settings I used for this simple scene are also attached (they would be a bit different for the average scene, with modifiers or textures). If you want to, feel free to post a VRML file exported from SolidWorks, and I'll see what I get pushing that through Blender to Octane as well.

Thanks @Cire.

Found it! :D
my file name contained spaces - Octane didnt find the mtl :?

ok I know now confirm colour is available in unbiased renders.
I provide a hideous render to prove it.
I am an alpha state renderer myself.

Hi,

It's a pretty nice model.
You should make a few nice renderings of it,
as we don't have any mechanical engineering renderings in the gallery.

it would definately help to have some to attract that sort of users.

i'll have a look at the filename issue.

No trouble! Glad you got it sorted out.

Now just throw a studio HDRI around that thing and shiny it up a bit! :D
