Hi Paul,
I have a Revit file that lost association the Octane plugin - materials, proxies, camera settings, the lot. I opened a new project file a couple of time, which closed the plugin automatically (as this always the case?). On one occasion, after this happened the file also lost association. But closing Revit and re-opening restored the association. When it happened again I thought I could do the same but no dice. Restarted machine and still no association. The only anomaly I can think of is that, on this occasion, I had copied and pasted an element (a single wall) from a previous version of the file into the current project file. Could this be the culprit.
I could go back to a previous file version but as things stand I'm in a bit of a bind since I have done quite a bit of work before I realised what had happened.
Is there any way to re-link the file? Sorry, but I can't do much searching for a solution right now due to a bit of pressure on this project so I would appreciate a dig out of you can manage that!
Revit 2014. Plugin version 2.1.0.5

Seeker

Hi Seeker. Not sure exactly what you mean by "lost association" and "re-linking". Are you able to send me the file pls? Then I can open it in the debug session and see what info is saved in the rvt.
Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
I mean that the plugin lost all material associations with the Revit model, defaulting to white where I made any changes to materials. Proxies all disappeared. Any changes I had made up to this point to camera settings (for instance FOV), are gone too.
The file is 200mb. I could dropbox it to you I guess but do you have any ideas?
Cheers,
Seeker

I'll need to take a look at it. Is it possible you opened the file with version 1.5 of the plugin after it had been saved with version 2.0?I mean that the plugin lost all material associations with the Revit model, defaulting to white where I made any changes to materials. I don't think so, Paul. I only have one version of Revit installed and only one version of the plugin running. I have been trying to think what might have triggered this. I once did a back-up save to my local machine and then later opened from the server again (or saved to the server in the same session - can't remember). This is probably an unlikely cause though.I'll need to take a look at it. Is it possible you opened the file with version 1.5 of the plugin after it had been saved with version 2.0?
I had to revert to an older file and lost a bit of work but I'm back up to speed now. Revit is becoming a great iterative design tool for me, which is what I hoped would happen.

Seeker, if you send me the file, I can look into the rvt file to see what Octane info has been saved, and that might give some clues.

Hi Paul,
I never got round to sending you the previous project file, partly because it was so bit but also, since I was under pressure I just re-textured the model (thankfully only external textures). But I got the same problem with a new project today. All materials as well as proxy info and camera settings were lost. I can't pin-point an exact activity when this occurred these occasions but opening another Revit file when the plugin was running with an open render-view (causing the plugin to shut down abruptly) was true in both cases. But while this seems to be a possible cause, I know there have been times when I opened another file in the same fashion and then simply re-opened the plugin and everything was still fine.
Interesting thing is that opening the plugin again sometime later included some materials from Revit like it normally does when opening the plugin the first time for a project - i.e. not all the same gray material (except the site) (see below). I had only just started texturing and assigning proxies when this occurred so it may not look like much is missing but my precious stone wall is lost as well as the proxies as you can see.
Plugin version: 2.1.0.5
Revit 2014
Driver 340.52
Windows 8 (64)
I will send you the 2 files (just before and just after the issue) by PM. Hope you can help!
Thanks,
Seeker
PS: I made a peculiar discovery. The plugin seems to work in a kind of asynchronous fashion pertaining to proxies. I.e. if I assign proxies, these seem to show up in earlier versions of the project file as well, even if they weren't assigned at the time of saving those earlier Revit files. Is this the intended behaviour?

Thanks for the info. If you can determine a set of steps to reproduce the issue, then I should be able to easily fix it. Will be interested to see those files Seeker.

I was trying to define the common steps the few times this occurred but as I said the only common denominator seems to be opening a new Revit file (project or family) while the plugin is open and rendering, resulting in the render window closing. As also mentioned though, other times I re-opened the plugin after the same activity it was still fine... I get the idea that it can handle a certain amount of these events but then gets 'confused' (what do you say, am I a software development candidate of what!?). Sorry that I can't offer any more insight than that. Hopefully the 2 Revit model files will help - sent them by PM about an hour ago.
Best,
Seeker
