I just bought a new system with 2 x GTX780ti cards. I want to utilise the Quadro K5000 in my old system using network rendering. When I launch Octane_Slave.exe on the old system I'm prompted for my OctaneLive username and password. When I enter this I get invalid OctaneLive account? Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Is there a userguide for newbies on how to set up network rendering?

I purchased a 1 x standalone licence and a 1 x SketchUp plugin licence. Hoping Octane have took the Vray approach to network rendering

for a network rendering, second rig You need other licence =) so the best would be to get Your quadro into new PC (if old is not in use) & power up the screen from it while leaving two GTX cards to render. When You don't need screen interaction simply anable render on all cards.

Motherboard can only take 2 cards! A little short sighted of me perhaps but was hoping 2 x GTX780ti's would give all the render power I needed. I watched a few YouTube videos which showed excellent performance but I have since realised these demos use the Direct Light kernel which is no good for productions renders.

it depends on Your workflows, projetc scale & optimisations.. but yeah, buying a mobo with four PCIe slots & a bit bigger power suplly (1500W) to be able to upgrade in the future is a wise move =) as with something bigger under short dealine You might want to add two more cards(without need of rebuilding whole system..).

Hi John,
Yes, there is a guide, please view here: http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Standalo ... ge_id=1248
Glimpse is right, you'll need a second OctaneLive Standalone Edition license for your second machine.
cheers...

Thanks for the info guys I've seen expansion solutions from Cubix, if I moved my 2 x 780ti into something like this and my Quadro K5000 into my desktop machine would I still require another license. Ive bought a 2 slot mobo (mistake) rather than a 4 slot thinking 2 x 780 would provide enough performance. Are there other expansion solutions like Cubix but cheaper?

there are some more companies You can find expanders from like:Magma, Netstor, trenton, etc.

All of those products will come about simmillar price levels & some certified producs will be not even more costly, but hard to get..

Keep in mind the cards You're looking to get into, as some guys are reporting like 1000W power supply gets bit too little under load (with 4x cards with up to 250 usage that spike up even to 300W each). So might need to replace power supply =)

No, You don't need extra licence, as these are conected to Your PCIe slot & once You power up computer all cards will be visible as native =) so, let's say if You have two PCIe slots: You can use the first one for Your Quadro & connect PCIe card that comunicates with expander into second one. In that case You can have one, relativelly simple computer & other box with like 4x cards dedicated for rendering.

This Guy got a bit crazy & stuffed 3x dual cards (590) with one 580, put them all under water with 9x 120mm fans =) it's probably one of the crazyiest rigs I've seen so far in these forums =)
