Hi,

is anyone using OpenSubdiv for Maya 2014? When I'll find the time i'll try to build it from the source files (https://github.com/PixarAnimationStudios/OpenSubdiv), but I'm a little confused because Maya 2014 isn't in the /cmake/FindMaya.cmake file. Is it already build in somehow? Had someone used it before Maya 2015?

Can someone confirm that the OpenSubDiv smoothing method under smooth mesh is now supported with Octane? I'm still not 100% sure how the new smoothing features OpenSubDiv and rounded edge are implemented. Any explicit infos whether I need the OpenSubDiv plugin build and installed or not would be fine!

Thank you!

In the Channel Box, change "Octane: Geometry type" to Reshapeable proxy, then change "Octane: Level" to whatever subdiv level you want.

Is that what you're looking for?

Yea, but in this case you are only able to see the subdivided model in the render view. The advantage of OpenSubdiv is the realtime viewport view like in this video:

My question is, if this workflow works with octane as well. I don't have Maya 2015 and i would like to know if it'll worth the effort to build OpenSubdiv for Maya 2014.

I see...well, this sounds like a Maya question, rather than an Octane question.

As I understand it, Octane subdivides using its own implementation of OpenSubDiv (if you tell it to), regardless of what happens inside Maya. So whether you use Maya's own Smooth Mesh Preview or OpenSubDiv for previewing shouldn't affect how Octane subdivides. Unfortunately I don't think Octane will import OpenSubDiv info from Maya, so e.g. it won't import creases. But I could be wrong.

If that's true maybe linking the smooth mesh attributes to the octane ones could be a workaround. Mhm... would be very nice if someone with maya 2015 could confirm this.

Yes, I'd be curious, too...I'm on 2014.
