We are rendering an animation via backburner to 4 computers. We have found that one computer is rendering the noise much smoother than the other 3. I have confirmed that all the plugins and standalone are the same version.

It creates a flashing effect when compiled to video, when the different levels of hotspots can been seen.

I noticed the same. If I render the same picture twice with the exact same settings it still will have a tiny difference. maybe it is the way GPUs render

This an artifact of how the results of multiple GPUs are merged. If you would save the result as linear (/unclamped) HDR image you would see that the amount of noise is the same.

Ok, i have tried again with setting
- camera to Linear
- files saved to HDR radiance non clamped format

But still the problem is there.

Next test will be to turn off some GPUs so that it is only running on 1.

We noticed a similar issue with our lights.

We could not figure out why our interior ceiling lights (octane light discs) would flicker very slightly on certain frames.

Since all of our cards are now identical on all our slaves and workstations, we no longer experience this problem.

We could be wrong, but we attributed the original problem to the mixing of different video cards.

best,
