I spent ages trying to get various glass material to work and kept getting situations where a lathed spine object just never looked right. I managed to fudge it once so it look sort of okay, but all other attempts were too dark or too reflective or not refracting.

Turns out the normals were pointing the wrong way! It's very subtle in C4D and if you have an OpenGL view with no ploys showing, it's almost impossible to detect (unlike, say in LightWave, which has normal indicators and the mesh looks inverted). It's dumb mistake, but easy to do with some of C4D's modelling tools, so I thought I'd mention it - if your wine glasses, bowls or other glassware isn't reacting as you'd expect, check the normals!

Of course, now it's fixed, the results are excellent!
