Hi all,

As we are now feature frozen and our new manual is complete,
we can supply it on the forums in PDF format for download.

Non-customers can have a look at it read in detail what octane render is and does.

This is a beta manual of a beta version, so it's not %100 finished.
It will be with the official beta 2.3 which will become the v1.0 RC very soon, and then we will add the final modifications/updates to the manual.

It's a PDF file made for widescreen displays with a bookmark bar on the left for easy navigation in the tree of chapters.
I'd like to express my thanks for philbo as he's done a marvelous job on the manual.

I will keep this post sticky in this forum (resources / sharing) and keep it updated with the latest versions as we approach v1.0 final.

Note that this is the manual for the current customer only beta 2.3, not the stable 2.2b which is on our demo download page,
2.3 has a lot more features.
If you don't want to buy a beta license at this time, we will be supplying a demo version of the v1.0 final which will match the feature-wise (except for the new render kernel we're adding, which is the last major feature for v1.0 final, which is not documented yet in this manual)

Download in Adobe PDF format: http://www.refractivesoftware.com/docum ... 2_3_v5.pdf

Enjoy,

feature frozen?

so the walkthrough mode or feature has no chance of coming anytime soon?
Because it's useless without it!

Say I export a house with a fixed camera, I make all the material settings I need, render it, but for the rest of the rendering either I spend an insane amount of time to get the other angles in octane, or I reexport the scene with another camera and redo all the materials (even if I save them to liveDB first and then copy them, its still pretty lengthy).
Kinda takes the fun away from all the interactivity.

Please, at least make a camera node that you can somehow save, or put aside, so I can have a scene with all the cameras and switch between them.

Also, the manual doesn't cover what happens with the saved nodes. I couldn't find a way to use those saved *.ocm files.

I thought that MLT (or whatever you want to call it) was slated for this version as well. And I also saw discussion of a 2.3 v6 on the boards. Are those now being cancelled?

Sorry guys, but if it's not good enough for you i don't know what we can do...
I've explained everything above in the post. this is the wip manual for 2.3 v5 and not for the upcoming v6.

Maybe i made a mistake and posted it too soon... ?

Sorry if I misunderstood, but your previous post stated "we are now feature frozen" which made it sound like v 2.3 v5 was being finalized. I'm glad to hear that v6 is still scheduled to be release.

Hey,

As the software and manual is still evolving, we'd like to put off translations until all is finalized.

For Italian translation You can count on me, if it's needed. Cheers.
