Fun Fact of the Week: GeForce GTX 480 and GeForce GTX 470 will be the names of the first two GPUs shipped based on our new GF100 chip!
Hum yeah so GF100 aka FERMI are gonna start at 400 and not 300 ?
Very nice

I guess they want it to sound more advanced and faster with a bigger number...maybe its ok to charge more too ;)

upsetting for me I see in an older tweet (Nov) they say the card is 10.5" long.
this wont fit my old case I wanted to reuse
The strange thing is that I downloaded some Nvidia fermi Tesla blurb and the dimensions given is 9.75".
same 9.75 " mentioned here
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_te ... 70_us.html

I cant see the cases being specially different for Tesla than GeForce.
I'm hoping the smaller size is correct...

or just use a dremel tool :) ?

Or just buy another case
There's ultra cheap cases (even from Antec) that support 10.5 cards ;)

maybe some long lost relative leaves me money or I win Lotto...
then I build a dream machine stuffed with cores for this and that :geek:

well actually it isnt a great hardship for a new case but I wanted to do the minimum like just change cards you know not rebuild the whole thing ;)
I want to get on with rendering and not be a mechanic with random dremel madness. :?

you join with me guys and we pray for a 9.75" card 'because size does matter' and I am lazy

I think its 10.5" for the new consumer Fermi card but isn't the current GT 200 series also 10.5"? Fermi is going to be nice, but they should release a 2GB version:

GTX 480 = 2GB
GTX 470 = 1.5 GB

Current gtx200 are 10.5 you are right, I had one in my hand its huge

GTX470 and GTX480 are not FERMI
FERMI are Tesla 2.0 its more expensive than GTX470 and GTX480 wich are high end consumer series

FERMI are pro consumer series at 3gb and 6gb memory (GDDR5)

yes the GTX 260, 275 etc are 10.5".
@sam I think Fermi is the code name for the architecture that is the basis for all these new cards.
The last Tesla came in exactly the same size case as the card it was based on the GTX285 at 10.5".
