Referenced assets
Moderator: face_off
I'm working on a shot where I need to reference in different vehicles into the master scene. The MODO assets come in fine, as do the Octane overrides, but it just renders white like the default base material. I didn't see referencing listed in the limitations, but does it actually work? Or is there some sort of bug? Using the newest version of the plugin.
Are you using Modo701 or 801 pls?

Referenced Assets works differently on Modo801 compared with 701. 801 referenced assets functionality has been reworked, and do not show in the plugin at all - and is next on my list to address. In haven't tested referenced assets in 701 (since my understanding was that people were not using this Modo feature in 701) - but it sounds like you are! Would it be possible to send me a sample 701 lxo which demonstrates the problem you are having, and I can see if there is a simple solution.
Thanks
Paul

Hmm, just did a simple test with a sphere referenced into a new scene and it seemed to work fine for the most part. Making a material change in the asset and then saving updated the reference in the master, too. Not sure what's going on. Perhaps something in my shader tree with masking or something? I try to dig thru some more tomorrow morning and see what I come up with.
I don't often use referencing in 701 because, well, it's pretty terrible. But I wanted to give it a try again so I could keep the material setup outside of the master scene (and in a different lighting setup).

When you say you are on the "latest" version of the plugin - what exact number pls, and OSX or Win? There was a fix put through on item tags in the Shader tree with 1.53.1.67.

Everything is there in my signature. OSX 10.8.5, MODO 701 SP5, Octane 1.53.1.67. (I just downloaded the new OSX plugin version this afternoon)face_off wrote:When you say you are on the "latest" version of the plugin - what exact number pls, and OSX or Win? OK, thanks. My preference is to get references assets working on 801 first, since that is the most broken bit. But if you find a good test case in 701 which is not working I will take a look.

Went back to the original asset model and cleaned up the shader tree. I guess an item mask or something must have been getting in the way somewhere, because now the asset renders fine when referenced into the master scene. Sorry about the false alarm. The only weirdness I'm getting is when editing the asset when the master scene is open (which is how 701 does it), where only part (or none) of the asset is loaded onto the GPU. Not a huge deal at the moment.
