I wanted to see how light can be made visible in Octane. I played with Ahmeds demo scenes and used that on my latest interior scene. Tweaking position and scale of the fog-box in addition of adjusting the scale of the fog shader gave this results (5000 samples PT, render time 34 min).

Excuse me if this is a silly question - would the edges of the god rays be more defined if the render was left to cook for longer?

No silly question at all! What I found out so far is that it seemes that the definition depends on the angle of the camera to the fog-box. With a frontal view the edges come through the most. I did not get acceptable results with the other godray sample in Ahmeds demo collection. With the fog-sphere tied to the camera I only got weird circular patterns but no rays at all.
