I have a NVIDIA GT 220 that I purchased recently.
I was thinking about upgrading to a GTX 460.
Would I see a major increase is rendering power or just a minor increase?
Thank you
Jack

They really should put benchmark info on the Refractive homepage.
According to the chart a 460 would be about 6.5x faster than your 220. And the 460's are going to get 50% faster once CUDA 3.2 is released.

I have a 220 now as well and I have purchased a 2GB 460, so I can let you know how it works. I just ordered it though, so I won't have it for about a week or so, if you can wait that long.

well, if 6.x times faster or in that ballpark, I will be upgrading soon I think. Thanks grimm
hey colorlabs, let me know what you think. Im excited to hear.
Octane is fast already and I am salivating about the thought of more speed.

Yes I have the Palit 460 2gb and it's pretty incredible. A 3.5x improvement over my old 9800. AND it's really exciting that within a month or two it will be 1.5x as fast. I think the 460 is definitely the best deal on the market.
That said, I've already gotten bored of the blazing speed and am considering getting a second one
But really, I can't complain, Octane is allowing me to make beautiful 1080p animations with 1.5M polys in under 60 sec/frame. But 15 sec would be so much better...

that is great colorlabs.
I had a change of plans and bought a new GT430 tonight and I like the speeds so far.
I'd be happy to provide some numbers for the Octane spreadsheet if someone could tell me where to get the benchmark scene and what info is needed.
My machine is pretty much maxed out now and I will look forward to building a new one in a while.
Thanks

Download the test suite at http://www.refractivesoftware.com/downloads.html
Open the OctaneBenchmark file and switch from directlighting mode to pathtracing mode in kernel options.
Post your megasamples/sec on the forum I linked to earlier - http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum ... 673#p30673

that number is really low, are you sure it's using the right card for rendering? since the 430 is a new card, perhaps this is a similar situation to the 460 - the cuda drivers do not recognize the card so they don't use it to its full potential...hopefully someone who knows better will chime in now.
