May I ask why you need such an old version? That is from July last year. Won't a later version work for you?

I just found it . I need it because I was about to install the latest - then saw your ominous warning
that older files WONT open. So I have to go back and use this.

That's not what the warning says. It says if you save with the 1.29 version, you cannot then open with the 1.20 version. But 1.29 is very robust now - and safe to migrate to, as low as your video card is not very old (anything from the GTX 500 series onwards is fine).

Oh Ok, my bad.

So I can open old files with the new version - but just cant save them for an older version reopen.

Can I now install 129 directly over my old version 117 install? Or do I have to edit files by hand?

You can just install over the top of 1.17. You shouldn't need to edit any files. However make sure you following the instructions at the top of the 1.29 TEST thread - specially regarding deleting your old default rendertarget.

and recreate them again in the plugin.

also, will i even have anything to change, since I just installed 117, authorized it, but havent
rendered anything yet?

You need to replace the [username] part above with your Window login username.

You do not need to delete the defaultrendertarget.por file in this case.

Installed and seems to be working.
