Hi, Im about stablishing as freelance. My main field will be product visualization/photo manipulation/cgi photography/compositing and motion graphics.

I dont know how to calculate the cost of a project wich involves 2d and 3d for still frames. Compositing here its usually 40-50€ per hour.

Could somebody give me some rates so I can make an idea of how much it cost?

thanks very much.

I really depends on experience needed for the prject. And the location you'll be working.
Usually 250 - 400£ in UK (daily for pro users.

there is advice from Ben Mauro - OK he's a Zbrush concept art rock star, but you can read some of his thoughts on rates (if you're doing original work, than it's probably concept "art", like what an architect does)

http://www.artofben.com/Advice
- actually it's a good thing for everyone to keep the prices along those lines, for everyone and everywhere - if unexperienced - do it at half the price which is still a lot

- since people tend to price their work for 10 times less, or next to nothing, for whatever reason - then the client undermines everyone else's work, cause they think it's worth nothing - just some guys doing "computer generated" images

freelance vs in house
...........................................
In-house (Employee): $200-400 USD per day

-Dependable.
-Long term.
-Benefits (Health/medical).
-Bonuses.
-Work with medium to large team of people. (learning from others)
-Lower hourly rates (bonuses/benefits can make up for this).
-Fixed hours.
-Usually work on one large project instead of short term work on dozens of smaller ones.

Freelance (Contractor): $500-1000 USD per day

-Can be unstable/inconsistent.
-Short/med term jobs.
-No Benefits (health/medical).
-Make your own hours.
-Smaller team, or working alone.
-Higher rates.
-Contract to contract work schedule.
-Multiple jobs at same time.
-You do all the business (emails/contracts etc), instead of a manager/company you work for.
