Downloaded octane demo for C4D, testing it out! Everything's amazing so far, that demo will make me buy octane and a few GPU's to my machine!

I'm currently stuck with material creation process. It seems impossible for me to create advanced materials. I never played with the node based structure of Octane, therefore, I'm not sure how it works. Can I use the C4D materials to create anything I want, basically? Does it have the full power of node-based system? Can you get every result with a non-node based approach on C4D?

I think I can start with a SSS material, which I was unable to find how to build one. Looking for a resource or tips.

Cheers.

Hi Zettam,

Try checking out both the standalone and C4D manuals.
http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Standalone
http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Cinema4D

You use the octane nodes to create your materials. For SSS you will need a specular material with a medium.
Take a look here for more information http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=9380

Thanks
Chris.

farther some info:
We have two main type of Octane Material. Octane Material is for standart types like diffuse, glossy and specular materials.
Second type is mix material. You can connect different materials to inputs. Also most textures has inputs like Standalone.
Nearly every connection is possible as standalone node editor. It's possible to connect many nodes to others.
Also last versions has some texture and transform instancing features.
So you have not to use a node editor for complex setups. SSS materials can be build with tranmission slot of diffuse material type.

Best regards,
Ahmet

I think I've solved to create sss octane material directly in c4d without node editing:
*created a diffuse material
*set the tranmission color to what I want it to be, that's the color of the scattered light
*added "scattering medium" to medium tab of the material, and payed with the settings

I have a diffuse SSS material right now.

Now, I'm trying to create a diffuse material with perfect glossy surface (no roughness) - When I turn my material into a specular mat, the whole "transmission/medium" combination works different. Also, aded roughness effects both inside and outside (reflection and refraction) of the material at the same time. How can I get thecontrol of them seperately?

Do I have to use the node editor to create every type of material? Ir is it possible to create them in C4D material windows?

THanks.

Try looking at the mix material.
It allows you to mix any two materials. eg: If you have the scattering you want with the diffuse material, but you just want to add some glossy-ness, then you might want to try mixing the diffuse material with a glossy.
