Problem with the spammers - possible solutions?

I've noticed an increase in spam lately. Perhaps we could throw around a couple of ideas as to how this could be prevented in the future? Perhaps we could do what they do at CG Society, and require new members to have their first 2 posts manually checked before they are freely allowed to post after that. Refractive could get volunteers to help out with that.

I have been here and seen these people in action.
Would love to have be able to kill their registration as they posted
