Not a very explanative title ... but I decided to group my questions under such a thread, so I don't clutter up the forum with my newbish questions as a newbie - and hopefully doesn't enrage the RTFM people in case I have missed something. I had used Blender Cycles before, so that's where I come from.
Questions/Remarks:
1. I noticed the viewport set to rendered view does not update geometry immediatly ... I have to switch modes (object/edit) to get it to update. Is that a bug or normal?
2. Hitting F12 (render) does not give a progress info anywhere .. there is no bar or number increasing or bits of rendered rectangles showing up etc, so I was wodnering if soemthing happens or if I had hit a bug? Do I even need F12, as the octane plugin always sees to just render towards maximum if you leave it be?
3. I love the LiveDB! But the tree view is a bit cumbersome to use if you end up going down a few directory levels and then scroll down .. it wastes screen space and lacks overview ... I guess some gallery-style approach with filters/pulldowns etc might be quicker? But I think I read somewhere on here that soemthing is planned. Nevertheless, it's lovely to have a community material DB - that really was missing from cycles.
4. The question probably already asked a few times: why not Blender 2.69?
Blender newbie goes Octane plugin
1. At least some of the information is updated to the renderer when you leave edit mode. The live mode is more for setting up the materials, not really for geometry, so it's probably intended. But it's already known.
2. It should give you a progress info, at the same place where cycles and internal show the info, at the top of the 3d view. If it doesn't show it's probably a bug.
3. The LiveDB (and the whole plugin) is still a beta, so don't know if there will be changes in the future.
4. JimStar said, that 2.69 will be a separate release, because the transition itself should be tested without possible bugs from features added to octane.
Hope that helps.
