I have Octane pretty stable right now, but I still getting hanging someties when I load a material from Live DB.

I get the extra window telling me Live DB is loading, and Rhino becomes unresponsive. It's not a crash, and Task Manager is telling me Rhino is running, but I have no control over it.

Anyone else have this issue? Is this the right place to be posting this?

Andrew

Hi

If the loading of a LiveDb material takes too long, it should give a "timeout" error message. I have noticed sometimes that if you task-swap out of Rhino whilst the material is loading and then it pops up an error (like the "timeout"), when you taskswap back to Rhino, the error is under the Rhino window, and you cannot see it. Mouse-over the Rhino icon on your Windows taskbar, and the dialog may appear as a second Rhino window, but it's unlikely you will be able to bring it in front of the Rhino window.

I will fix this in the next version (so you can get to the error dialog to close it).

I am also looking at a way to download all the LiveDb materials in a batch process to RMTL files, but this won't make the next release.

Hi Paul,

No timeout messages for me, just frozen viewports. Sometimes I get a couple of "Loading LiveDB Material" windows that sit in the background and can't be closed. Today I didn't get the loading window, and everything froze. Task Manager showed rhino as 'running' but it was not responsive...

Understood. I've make a few changes to the dialog "ownership" in the plugin, so hopefully the next release will rectify this (available in the next week?).

Looking forward to it! I can't seem to get LiveDB to work at all today. Every time I try to load a material the dialog says 'working' for about 5 seconds before I get a "(not responsive)" message and everything freezes.

Anything I can do to fix this in the short term?

Which version of Rhino and the plugin are you using pls?

EDIT: Also - do you have anything else running in the background that might be grabbing the windows focus?

Rhino 5 (5.6.31028)
Octane 1.20.1.17

I do have other windows open, but this bug hasn't happened (this badly) until today. Perhaps its something to do with my network speed? We seem to be running a little slower today.
Having the material library locally would be a real plus. An option to download new materials would be handy too.

Are you loading the LiveDb materials while the Viewport is open? If so - try loading them with the Viewport shut.

The fix for this (in the latest version) is done - but I cannot easily release it because the build is against a later version of both Rhino and Octane. Hopefully in the next week I can release it.
