Anyone know why this might be? (using windows 7 64bit - connecting with a macbook) Do I need two GPUs or is something to do with the licensing - there's no option to install Octane for all users on a single machine and logging in as another user (other than the one used to install it) causes it to put up a no licence window.
I was hoping to stick my main PC inside a cupboard and connect via a RDC with a laptop. Most other applications seem to run fine, but Octane crashes just after the splashscreen or the window just remains blank.
Has anyone done this ok with another software? (Using latest version of Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac).
OR won't run on a computer connected to via remote desktop

Hi,
I think this has something to do with the Remote Desktop Protocol in that it doesn't allow detection of the graphics card. You need to connect using a different protocol such as VNC. I currently have a mac and connect to my octane equipped pc using Splashtop(http://www.splashtop.com). I can even use the ios version of Splashtop to check on the progress of my render from my ipad!

I think I may need this... I'll have to check it out. Thanks bro.

I do this constantly using team viewer. Absolutely no problems and the program is free. Its very fast and I have no speed difference if I am using my computer or my remote computer. Sometimes I even forget that I am actually remoting in.
And yes, there is a protocol for remote desktop that does not work with these types of video cards, that might be why yours is not working right now.

You may not have OpenGL through the remote desktop. Try to start Octane using the --no-opengl command line parameter. You can add the parameter to the shortcut to Octane. The target field should look like this:
"C:\Program Files\OTOY\OctaneRender 1.20\octane.exe" --no-opengl
--
Roeland
"C:\Program Files\OTOY\OctaneRender 1.20\octane.exe" --no-opengl

On the other hand, "remote desktop connection" have some more issues. The main GPU speed decreases about 50% after connection. I think, it`s because of protocol design and also v-sync about the driver. Teamviewer seems to be a better solution (although I`m not sure about it`s routing. Using LAN or WAN -to reach its main servers always- ?)

I've had a great deal of success with VNC. I use the personal licence of RealVNC, works from both my ipad & laptop. I get full speed (3-7MBs depending on scene) but its the same from the terminal or via VNC. and it actually free's up video ram(100mb+) if I set VNC to log the user out upon connection...

I just ran into this problem tonight and accidentally found a weird workaround that lets you use Windows RDP with Octane (Windows RDP is the fastest one i've found which is why i like to use that):
1.Install Team Viewer
2.Log into your remote computer via Team Viewer and launch Octane Render or your plugin app
3.You can now go back, login via Windows RDP and use Octane render with no problem. If you close Octane or your plugin app you will need to relaunch it via team viewer before you can use it through Windows RDP again.
From what I found out tonight, Windows RDP disables CUDA and runs its own basic set of drivers that are optimized for remote viewing, which is why it works so fast and clean, or something like that. For whatever weird reason, launching in teamviewer first makes CUDA accessible to Windows RDP. Don't ask me, but it works!!

We use Radmin with no problems.
