Otoy® is proud to announce the availability of a new version of OctaneRender™ for Maya®
The world's fastest and most feature-rich unbiased render engine that integrates completely into Autodesk® Maya®.

Maya® Version Requirements

This release will work with Maya® Version 2014 64-bit on Linux operating systems.

Notes regarding features/functionality

OctaneRender™ for Maya® implements almost full functionality of OctaneRender™ standalone inside Maya®.

COMPATIBILITY AND OCTANERENDER STANDALONE REQUIREMENT

To run OctaneRender™ for Maya®, you need to also have an activated OctaneRender™ Standalone copy activated on the machine you wish to install the plugin onto.
You cannot purchase and use only the Maya plugin and use it without also owning an activated copy of OctaneRender™ Standalone on your machine
.

HOW TO PURCHASE LICENSES

Go to our online shop here: http://render.otoy.com/shop/

If you do not own an OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition License yet:
You can purchase both the OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition and the OctaneRender™ for Maya® Edition as a reduced price bundle, purchase the bundle priced at 359€

If you already own one or more OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition licenses you want to pair the plugin with:
Purchase an "OctaneRender™ for Maya® Beta License" priced at 199€

You can also purchase a 3, 5 or 10 pack of OctaneRender™ for Maya® licenses, just like OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition packs.

OCTANELIVE

Just like OctaneRender™ Standalone, the Maya® plugin product also needs an additional OctaneLive license and be activated on a machine.
This has to be done in the plugin interface panel in Maya, and is covered in the included PDF manual.
It can only be done after an OctaneRender™ Standalone license is already activated on the machine in question.

Installation:
- Just run the installer to see its command line keys.;)

Hello JimStar,

my computer

runs on Centos 6.4 64bit and GlIBC_2.12, unfortunately i don't have GLIBC_2.14.
Is it anyways possible to do it with those components or do i have to have GLIBC_2.14 to get it done?

I attached you the error, please see below.

The Octane Standalone linux and other applications/ Software runs good on my Linux system, so i´d rather do not change it to another one.
Can you tell me which System do you use for developing Octane for Maya on Linux?

Thanks for you help in advance!

Looking forward to hear from you,

Unfortunately we can't have the plugin dynamically linked against libc working on all possible Linux distributives... And linking libc statically will produce the huge size of plugin's binaries...
So, it is made compatible with most common Ubuntu 12.04 at the time, most of other distributives will be compatible too, but as you already see - some of them will need some libraries-tuning to run the plugin.

Hello JimStar,

there aren't yet that many Linux Versions that have a Long Term Support.
Unfortunately it doesn't work with the GLIBC_2.14 in Centos 6.4, furtherwise there wouldn't be any Long Term Support for that.
Centos 6.4 has a Long Term Support just like Ubuntu 12.04 LTS?
Cant it be possible to compile it for Centos 6.4 GLIBC_2.12?

The reason why we can't switch to Ubuntu is that there a couple of people in our office working with Centos 6.4, so it would be great to find a solution for that.

Is there a Version of Octane Render coming up for Maya 2013 / Linux?

Best Regards!

Hi JimStar,
My render with octane plugin for linux keeps crashing during a command line batch render.
My setup machine constsist of a TYAN motherboard with 8X GTX-780.

maya.bin crashed during rendering. Although this didn't lock up or reboot the entire system, the render process stopped and had to be restarted manually. Here is the console output during render (zip):

Hi,
I'm trying to open maya 2013 mb files that are created in windows, inside maya 2014 on Linux (this is the student version for evaluation).
I'm getting an error message: "Errors have occurred while reading this scene that may result in data loss".
The scene loads but all octane shader nods are set incorrectly, like `Defuse`, `Specular` etc... (it seems that they are set to default value.)
I've attached the maya scrip editor output text (zip).

Please help.

Yes, it is known Octane problem under Linux (it affects any Linux plugins). We are trying to reproduce this fluctuating bug on our side to catch the reason...

Thank you for report.
Some additional questions:
- Are you using the same OctanePlugin version in both cases?
- Have you tried to open the same file under Maya 2014 on Windows?
- Can you give me that file to I can try to reproduce this issue?
