"The most typically extreme case for IBL-IS is an HDR photograph of the sky, because most pixels are even in brightness and color, except for the sun ball." - from arion

Is importance sampling working the same way in octane - driven by a HDR and the optimal scenario of a sky?

..also this feature from arion

"LightMixer light layers are back.

It's now possible to output all the LightMixer layers in a multi-layer EXR file and tune it in your favorite editing software such as Photoshop, After Effect, Nuke..."

.. it's been a few months without updates, no pressure octane team - just blow us away with new features already :)

it seems that only kepler cards are supported for gpu rendering
does the fermi architecture is blocking the new features for octane?

Looks impressive. The price tag for the standalone is also in line with Octane (didn’t Arion used to be way more expensive?)

But I don't see any mention of a Linux version... somebody tell them its 2013, not 2000 :)

Very interesting things... exit color, LightMixer, AOVs and advanced render region are very nice

Looks interesting, but since I'm not a Max, XSI or Rhino user, Arion is off my radar.
The stand-alone will import obj, but to me that's too much "import-fiddling-around".

Oh now that are interesting news!
Especially the new pricing really is interesting!
I remember it being around 1000$ per license.

It seems like they just got competitive to Octane!

Cheers,

My first (and last) Arion experienced was this.
Wow great feature list. Lets install it. Import took forever, then it crashed. Done.

I hope they (Arion dev) have put some energy in the kernel.
In the past it was just buggy.
The features read nice, though.

They have very useful features such as Render Region, Metropolis Sampling, and HDR Light Studio connection.
I hope Octane can catch-up quickly! ;)
