Hi all,
I'm having trouble loading a material from liveDB inside Revit.
I'm getting "Error loading LiveDB nodes for this material - potentially caused by time-out"
The process is working fine in the stand alone renderer (though its taking some time) but not in the plugin.
I tried to save a material from the stand alone and import it in Revit but they turned out to have different formats (.ocm vs .xml), is there a way to convert between both? or maybe to get the LiveDB working?

This can happen if the material has an invalid index in the LiveDb. Can you give me the material name and category pls and I'll check it out with Otoy.

That material load OK for me. Perhaps it is just a large material and the download timed-out?

Paul thanks for your replies,
As I mentioned before, the material is loading OK in the stand alone but its taking some time.
Maybe there is a need to increase the "time-out" waiting period inside the Revit plugin, or maybe expose this parameter to the user so it could be adjusted for slow connections.
Cheers,
Samer

Hi Samer - the time-out is set by the API, and I would guess that it is the same as Standalone. I suggest re-trying a number of times, and if you manage to download it - export it

Will do Paul, although its not making sense to me; that is working in one place and not in the other; unless there is some conversion process taking place in Revit plugin that is making the process slower (ocm > xml).
And what about this .ocm to .xml conversion? ... can it be done outside Revit? or maybe (in my wildest dreams) just change the file extension? :p

The plugin effectively calls the same function as Standalone to load a LiveDb. If it returns a time-out error, than the message you get is displayed. So I'm pretty sure it's just a slow internet link. Will do Paul, although its not making sense to me; that is working in one place and not in the other; unless there is some conversion process taking place in Revit plugin that is making the process slower (ocm > xml).

OCM is the plugin's own XML format for a material export or favourite. It will interchange with the Inventor and Rhino plugs, but not the other plugins or Standalone. Otoy have announced that export from the plugins to Standalone will be possible soon (maybe with Octane 1.5), so all this might change then.
