Did you just projected as a UV sphere. Slapped on a Color map and put up the roughness a bit?

thanks for the comments, not quite as simple as that but still quite straight forward, the cornea is a separate transparent mesh and the sclera and iris are a single mesh with the iris texture from deviantart uv mapped in blender, then I did 2 renders so that I could get the iris showing through and still have the reflections showing, then combined them in photoshop
