I am doing an animation that has some depth of field animation. (i.e. over time the camera focus changes on different parts of the scene. I see in the new plug in 2.3a there are some key buttons for lens aperture radius and focal depth. Focal depth changes what I call in laymans terms the lens length. i.e a 25 mm lens is wide angle while a 120 mm lens is more narrow etc and brings you closer to your object. Is lens aperture Radius the f-stop?
I have tried exporting focal depth (in maya that is the focal point and which the target is from the lens... but it does not seem to translate in octane to which objects are blurred or not.
I may be doing something incorrect but is there a way to get different depth of focus animation form maya in to octane?
Thanks
Peter

hi p3taoctane,
as far as i test it lens aper. radius works, maybe u used a low values so basically u cant see it
is u ask me best "workflow" will be to export 1 frame and check the depth in octane so u can see the "real" values for ur scene
hope this helps
cheers

You are correct I did do some tests in Maya and Octane and found that the radius does control the blur.
Also if you change the AIM of the maya camera then the octane camera will also use that AIM and if the radius is high enough then it will show TRUE depth of field. COOL.
BUT! In a series of animations where Maya AIM is changing over time (if the AF is ON in octane) it will autofocus on what Octane thinks is the center of focus and NOT what Maya AIM is looking at.
The problem is that if you turn AF off then you have to select a focus in Octane then I am not sure if it stays that way through the entire animation.
In other words ... can we link through the plugin Octane's selected focus picker to Maya's AIM?
Thanks
I will load a movie to show you what is happening in case it is something I am doing wrong

Actually Bazuka
As I think about it... MAYBE... Maya's AIM should be linked to AF (Octane's autofocus).
I just did a quick camera aim animation and when I turn AF OFF in the first Octane render to save the original OCS file it comes back on when rendering out the other frames.
I am not sure what AF centers on on Octane but if its the "MIDDLE" of the screen then you can't really achieve good rack focus pulls or have something in focus off center... can you?
Hope this train of thought is on the correct track.
Thanks

Hi p3taoctane
i understand what ur trying to say but as far as i know and see here there is no flag for Octane's autofocus maybe it will be in some future update, so i cant control it from maya...
cheers

No need for a flag that disables auto-focus.

There's a big mistake in the script.
