Hey, I've been using octane for about a week now and have been documenting my first few steps here. Its in blog format, so read from the bottom > up :)

http://www.mattfrodsham.com/octane

I seriously love this engine, its provided a new limitless scope for the kind of work I can do on my own machine with just graphics cards - in work I am used to high quality Vray frames taking up to an hour per frame and needing render farms for everything.. so to achieve those results in minutes is mindblowing. I love Vray, but I am really loving Octane so far.

A lot of people were asking me how I found Octane, especially in relation to Vray which I've been using for a long time. The blog talks honestly about what i like, what its limitations are currently, and a few render tests (not too many yet!) I will be updating it as time goes by and I become more familiar with how the materials work.

Thanks for bringing this software to C4D and mac, literally changed the way I can work!

Cheers Matt :D

oh and if there is any totally incorrect info so far then please let me know. I'm making a list of more focused questions to ask here once I figure out some more stuff on my own.

As you can tell I'm not so concise at writing so I thought I would get started during my first few steps and go from there! So some stuff might be based on ignorance..

The future is incredibly exciting though. Actually, the present is pretty damn exciting!!

I'd still be interested to hear your disagreements!

I noticed yesterday that C4D shaders ARE actually supported... so I need to test thoroughly which do and don't but it seems like at least the most common like noise and layer shader do work. Is this new in the 0.73 update or was I misinformed all along? Either way it seems great and I can't wait to try out all the possibilities!

to read this was really great. it's linked on my facebook page.
support for c4d shaders is not new. also we found a little bug that avoiding to activate for picture viewer. it's fixed for coming release. it uses a baking mechanism and not support realtime updates
