Hey guys,

Love octane, but I do have some things that bug me now and then, and one of them is the way the camera system moves.

If this is going to be changed, then please disregard.

One thing is if I'm building something flat on the ground and want to look over it from above, the camera rotation doesn't allow me to move up or down more than 180 degrees. I grab and rotate and hit an imaginary wall.

I've tried using the pos sliders, but I end up with the camera in some unknown position or flipping upside down or something.

I'd like to see something where I can freely rotate the camera 360 deg. in any direction w/o it jumping or hitting an imaginary wall, and I'm not sure if that can be or is planned to be done. I certainly don't claim to have any expertise in coding or even an elementary understanding of it beyond what I did on my old Tandy color computer 2 and 3 back in the day. If, then, goto, end kinda stuff :).

Thanks for everything guys, I'm curious to know if I'm the only one who feels this way or not, so I thought I'd try the poll option.

oh well, thought that it would be a good barometer of whether I was alone in my thinking or not, now I'll have to actually read responses :P.

polls ARE NOT disabled by the admins, they simply got broke after we installed the forum template and i haven't had time to have a look at it yet.

so what you want is a sort of blender linke, eg the more away from the center you roate, the further ?

I agree with DayVids, the camera in Octane is a little crippled, I have troubles precisely rotating it.

The trackball camera implemented in Blender is really great and intuitively easy to operate (or maybe I'm just not used to Octane implementation, don't know..).

I think a 2 key camera animation system will be verry welcome and easy to implement.

The user could specify just a starting and an ending position of the camera, amount and type of interpolation and number of frames.

In that way he could be able to produce more usable animations for arch vis.

Is it too much ? :)

I second that also. The ability to save current camera position, orientation and all other parameters and then come back to it, would be very useful.

+1 for me. I thought maybe it might work through nodes but I didn't have any success.

1. Create a new camera node
2. unparent the existing camera node.
3. Reparent the new camera node
4. Change the new camera node transforms, FOV, etc.
5. unparent the new camera node with new settings.
6. reparent the old camera.

The camera node should be a container for its respective properties. The user should then be able to select "reset camera view to default" and it would load the parented camera node, thus saving "a bookmark".

I always use blender in turntable mode (get bothered by tilting about in trackball as I will dutch the camera when I'm ready by way of controlled rotation), but I do like the free wheeling movement around, etc...

I'm sure this makes for complications too, as when you get to an animated situation, you're going to have to have counting past 360 degrees, but you don't really want sliders that are going into the 10K's as they get hard to use. I'm sure there are ways to do it, but I don't know the first thing about that stuff.

I just ask for things, and see if I'm the only one, call it market research.... unrequested, and perhaps undesired at the time, market research, but better to know than not IMO. :)
