Hi.
I think Refractive needs to include another way to release a license from one machine so it can then be used on another.
Maybe web based? I am completley locked out now, 2.3 on my main machine crashes straight away. Laptop, no CUDA devices detected now...(old betas worked, drivers for quadro 770M pain to get updates for) so kicks you out and cannot release license.
Web based deactivate or a safe mode would work for me (not sure about the backend implications though!!)
pre2.3 alternative way to release license from computer

Hi guys,
We won't do web based automated unlocking. That would make it too easy to run simultaneous copies. remember before you couldn't run your copy on more than one computer so it's already better than before. Maybe we could do an option to unregister automatically the license when quitting the app, we'll invastigate that path.

To have it unregister on quitting; would that work if A, the program does not even start (crashes) or B, quits before the interface appears because no CUDA device found?
What if it was web based, not automatic, but you had to log on and click "unregister machine"? Then the 30minute stand down period kicks in, after which you can activate on another machine. Because Octane calls home on startup, there could be no issue with 2 versions running off 1 license (first machine is instantly deactivated and your license database is updated, when user clicks deactivate via web interface).
Current situation is somewhat of a paradox. I cannot run it at all at the moment (unless someone at refractives end releases license)

Sorry gristle, that situation shouldn't have happened.
Please pm me your account detail so I can fix it on our end.
Could it be you have switched an ethernet access (like a wifi) on/off between your first run and now ?
Let me know.

No switching of wifi etc, it wont even get to interface on my main machine, just crashes (was using an temp license for that) so decided to try on my laptop, which ran the first betas, albeit slowly. It asked for account details, but wont boot because of no cuda devices. Guess I didnt check to see if the precision can still run this. Account name is gristle.
I have one other question; several people have asked for an outline of exactly what data is trasfered to the live servers, and I have not yet seen an answer. There was some mention of preferences, but this was a guess?

That would not be ideal if it takes up to an hour to switch licenses (as has been stated in prior posts). There have been many times when I shut down Octane and restart it because something is not working properly in Octane. Waiting an hour to restart Octane (because of the license) would be extremely frustrating.Nostromo wrote:Maybe we could do an option to unregister automatically the license when quitting the app, we'll invastigate that path.
