Hi :)

I am familiar with Octane for Maya and have been a long time fan but I am less familiar with the DAZ Studio plugin.

I have Genesis in an empty scene with a floor, a wall and one light source. The Octane render viewport does not show my scene. I am sure this is probably my fault. I'd just like to know how I can get this going.

Please see the screenshot of what I see on my render view:

It looks as though it is loading but never actually does.

i wouldn't be quiet as positive, that this must be your fault ;) anyway, the best thing to do in first place: get yourself the latest update; judging from the screenshot, you use the version delivered with the current installer... so: http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=30137

most probably this will already get you going. if not... we'll find a way :)
The obvious is that which is never seen until someone expresses it simply

BTW the octane render window does not show my scene on occasions as well. What I do in this situation is save the file(with a new name if you are scared), close DS. Reopen DS and the file. Then the render window works.

I tend to(occasionally) have this problem after adding new items to the scene. I haven't used the lastest update to the plugin yet as I haven't had a chance to get into DS in a few days.

... by dropping content, or by merging? if that happens it would be interesting if either reload, switching live off/on or final on/off helps...

OK I will keep an eye on it when I start to use the new version of the plugin and let you know. I have been out of commission rendering last few days and hopefully will get back into it tommorow.

Ah hah! I figured out what the problem is. I have two graphics cards on my PC. The built in is a basic Intel something or other and the second one is an NVIDIA card. It looks like Octane is not seeing the compatible card.

I do have a work around (kind of). I can still use Octane on my mac tower which is my render rig anyway BUT...
It means I have to hold off on using the Studio plugin until a Mac version becomes available.

Which... by the way... any idea when that might be? Hehe. :D

Also thanks for the tip on the most recent release! I've bookmarked that thread. I did try it but then I discovered the card problem.

hmm; basically this setup should work; my personal setup is quite like that (intel hd4000 + gtx 580s).

i'll put together a short checklist soon, where and what to look for possible configuration problems...

I can confirm that issue. I too have this from time to time. Still could not figure out when or why this happen. It just looks like it is stuck in loading the scene. I think one workaround was to reapply the GPU cards in the system settings.
